Well-architected Infrastructure

The Five Pillars of well-architected Infrastructure:

  • Operational Excellence

    • How support development and run workloads effectively ?

  • Security

    • How to secure infrastructure, application and data ?

  • Reliability

    • How to perform application intended function correctly and consistently when it’s expected to ?

  • Performance

    • How to use computing resources efficiently to meet system requirements ?

  • Cost

    • How to run systems to deliver business value at the lowest price point?

Reliability

Reliability - The probability that a system will produce correct outputs at a given time.

Serviceability - Simplicity and speed with which a system can be repaired or maintained.

Availability - The probability that a system is operational at a given time.

NOTE: The accepted availability standard for emergency response systems is 99.999% or “five nines” – or about five minutes and 15 seconds of downtime per year.

Observability

Aggregate below 3 sources to make discoveries and predictions about the functioning of a complex system, which would otherwise be difficult:

  • Logs - Generated by most systems components and applications and consist of time-series data about the functioning of the system or application.

  • Traces - Track the flow of logic within the application.

  • Metrics - CPU/RAM reservation or usage, disk space, network connectivity, and more.

Why Datadog?

It offers an entire suite of observability tools integrated into one end-to-end platform.

Leading products in all 5 pillars of infrastructure: observability, performance, security, cost, ops workflows:

450+ integrations:

Single pane of glass to be widely adopted across engineering teams:
